Hello, Blake here -

If you are reading this it means that we have connected in recent years regarding art & finance in some capacity.  I appreciate the fact that you had taken the time in the past to communicate with me.

As a boutique expert service the amount of work necessary to maintain a valuable network in both the art markets and financial sectors across Asia, Europe and North America can be cumbersome.

Which is why I have started this newsletter - to speak directly to you - the people that matter most to my business and help keep you informed on developments in the art & finance sectors.

This bi-weekly newsletter will be:

  • Brief - talking points with supporting hyperlinks

  • Informative - topical art x finance issues

  • Helpful - relevant to your work

and will cover topics ranging from:

  • Art market trends effecting your clients

  • Artworks, artists & galleries to watch

  • Developments in art & finance practice

  • Global art event notifications and details

You will be able to impress your clients and colleagues with your art market know-how after reading this.

Let's not waste anytime!

Trendlines - Hong Kong spring auctions

So far this season’s auction results suggest that the market’s steady expansion shows no sign of abating. Sotheby’s Hong Kong closed its main group of spring auctions on April 2 with $466.5 million in reported sales across all categories and one epic, 40-minute bidding war.

Recent auction data from Hong Kong supports the following popularity in segments of art:

  1. Asian art is the strongest

  2. Post-war/Contemporary solidly second

  3. Modern art not far behind

  4. Old Masters lagging

Also...buyers favor fine art over other categories.

Pulitzer awards prizes to art critics?

Yes...it does.

Jerry Saltz, iconoclastic NYC based art critic, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his art criticism work this week.

Jerry is an important figure in the art world and one that you can look to for a plain-spoken explanation or critique of art spanning all sectors.  He publishes widely and posts daily on Instagram & Twitter - in other words his work is easy to find.
If you want to stay up on whats happening in the art world...follow Jerry.

Are your clients in Monaco next week?

NOMAD Monaco will be from April 26th - 29th and will be held at La Vige, Karl Largerfelds former Monte Carlo residence.

This art fair is in it's second year and is considerably smaller than some of it's fellow art fairs...but is definitely worth attending if you or your clients are in the region.

Check out Massimo De Carlo gallery - you can find Mr. De Carlo's galleries around the world and with a notable location in Hong Kong, for my friends in Asia.

Thank you for the time!

The next newsletter will come April 30th and then every other Monday there after.  Please share with your associates, colleagues and clients!

Until next time,

Blake
